Diamond flew the new DA42 Twinstar with the Lycoming power plants to AOPA Expo in San Jose, CA. The aircraft looks great - both the engine nacelles and the new control quadrant show great fit and finish.

Diamond Aircraft and Eastern Aviation Insurance have announced the launch of the Diamond Aviation Insurance Program for Diamond Flight Centers and individual Diamond Aircraft owners. The program, underwritten exclusively by AXA Insurance through Britt / Paulk Aviation Underwriters, offers lower, preferential insurance rates – and some terms not available in the general market – to make owning and operating a Diamond airplane even more attractive.
For Diamond Flight Centers, the program leverages the high quality of these audited, selected flight schools to improve upon already-attractive rates available for all Diamond Aircraft. The program also offers terms and a scope of coverage not typically available to schools elsewhere:
Three years ago, Diamond suspended the Xtreme motor-glider production because of fleet expansion and remodeling of the factory floor in Austria. The motor-gliders are now back in production, and GLDAS has 5 on order, with the first delivery in late October.
Price starts at e124,970 for the 100HP normally aspirated model and e134,270 for the 115HP turbocharged model. A well-equipped unit will run $175,000 to $200,000.
Considering Sport Pilot? Consider the Motor-Glider Instead
Glider rules are more lenient than Sport Pilot rules, and no medical is required for either. The HK36 cruises at 118 - 120 knots on 4 GPH, and the aircraft are fun to fly power-on or power-off. The new model motor-glider has a premium interior very similar to the current-model DA20 Eclipse. Product details are listed in our Products page
Great Lakes Diamond Aircraft Sales has nationwide distribution privileges for the HK36 in the US, so wherever you live, please contact Andy James for ordering and inventory details.
Dealers Wanted: We are looking for motor-glider dealers in parts of the US, who are rated and equipped with a demonstrator. Contact Andy for details.

Diamond Aircraft today announced the introduction of major avionics upgrades available to owners of G1000- equipped Diamond DA40s. Upgrades include electronic charts, WAAS capability, as well as Garmin’s latest safety-enhancing functionality, Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology.
“At Diamond, we focus on safety, and on maintaining resale value of our aircraft for owners. We are excited that working with Garmin, we are yet again able to provide access to the latest avionics to our installed base, without making obsolete their investment,” explained Heike Larson, VP of Sales and Marketing at Diamond. “We are pleased that not only were we the first to offer Garmin’s SVT certified on a new aircraft, but that we are also the first to make this major safety-enhancing technology available to our DA40 installed base.”
In addition to a software-only upgrade, three complete upgrade packages are available: Garmin charts, WAAS basic or WAAS with coupled VNAV capability (for GFC700 equipped aircraft only.) Two add-on options – SVT and Chartview – can be added to each of the three upgrade packages. Owners who already have Charts or WAAS need not buy a full upgrade package, but instead can add SVT and ChartView through a special add-on kit.
Diamond customers with a G1000-equipped DA40 will receive a detailed letter explaining upgrade functionality, process and pricing over the next week. Kits will be available to ship by June 1st.
